How to find their ring size without asking
4 min read ยท True Vow Rings

Asking for a ring size gives the surprise away. These six tricks get you close without a word.
1. Borrow a ring they already wear
Take a ring from the same finger (left ring finger for most proposals) and compare it with the chart in our ring size guide. Measure the inside diameter in millimetres. Put it back the same day.
2. Trace it or press it
No time to measure? Trace the inside of the ring on paper, or press it gently into a bar of soap, and measure later.
3. Ask a friend or family member
Best friends and sisters often know the size, or can find out while ring shopping "for themselves".
4. Check a ring on another finger
If they only wear a ring on the right hand, measure it and go a quarter to half size down for the left. Dominant hands are often slightly larger.
5. Use your own finger
Slide their ring onto your finger and mark where it stops. Measure your finger at that point later.
6. When in doubt, go bigger
A ring that is slightly loose still goes on for the photos. Then choose the ring in our engagement rings under $100.
Questions and answers
What is the most common women's ring size in the US?
Sizes 6 to 7 are the most common, but hands vary a lot, so measure if you can.
What if the ring does not fit on the day?
Wear it on the little finger or a chain for the photos. Sizes are not exchanged, so measure as carefully as you can beforehand.
